Norfolk Humanists - About us
PAST - We have to thank Philip Howell for the formation of the original group of Norfolk Humanists and Secularists. In 1976 Philip wrote to the Eastern Evening News in response to letters from the ‘Save Religious Education’ Campaign. Philip and others were against the religious indoctrination of children. The British Humanist Association offered support and following a meeting at Philip’s home, it was agreed to form a Humanist & Secularist Group. Later the group became affiliated to the British Humanist Association and the National Secular Society. The appointment of celebrants to conduct Humanist Ceremonies followed. You can find links to celebrants in Norfolk on this and the Humanists UK website.
What are our core beliefs?

On the question of Morality, Norfolk Humanists:
What are our core beliefs?
Norfolk Humanists:
- Treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves
- See value and worth in all humans
- Seek rational explanations for all things
- Find that all claims for the supernatural are unfounded
- Know that we have one life, and that it should be lived well
- Celebrate our evolution and our role in the continuity of life, from our ancestors to our descendants
On the question of Morality, Norfolk Humanists:
- Refute absolutely that morality requires a supernatural God.
- Believe that our morality stems from the beliefs: that all people are valued and are equal and that there are mutual benefits from us working co-operatively.
